Tekapo in 2018

This time, I would like to introduce Lake Tekapo, which I visited in March 2018!

Lake Tekapo is a beautiful milky blue lake in the middle of NZ South Island.

The starry sky is very famous here, so many of you may have heard the name.

The Church of the Good Shepherd, shown on the far right of the photo above, is also famous.

Since I visited there a long time ago, I think there is a lot of old information, but I would like to introduce it as a record focusing on the time when I went there.

Access to Lake Tekapo

I took a coach called InterCity from Christchurch!

I was staying at YMCA in Christchurch the day before, and the Canterbury Museum in front of me was the platform.

The day before, I went to a casino in Christchurch and a pub, so I was barely able to endure the departure at 8 am a little. 😅

When I arrived at bus Tekapo terminal around 12pm, I left my luggage at the motel and took a walk along the lake.

Spots and food would like to recommend

Ice cream at a shop near the bus stop!

You can choose your favourite fruit from the fruits lined up on the table and make it ice cream on the spot!

I chose blackberry ☺️

The price was certainly $ 6.00.

There is a little bit left to eat and the texture is good, and above all, ice cream made from fresh fruits is YUM.

Tough it's a little expensive, I strongly recommend!

After that, I ate the fruit and leftover bread I brought from Christchurch on the bench along the lake, and checked in at the inn.

I stayed at Lake Tekapo Village Motel!

I went with a friend with three people, so I stayed in a room type called DELUXE FAMILY SUITE.

After checking in at the inn, we went to Tekapo Springs, a little far from the center!

I've been to Hanmer Springs for a spa in NZ, but Tekapo Springs was a lot smaller than that.

It's more like relaxing in a warm pool.

I walk around from the center, but the scenery is beutiful.

You may also meet wild rabbits.

And the night is the long-awaited starry sky tour!

It's impossible not to come to Tekapo and see the starry sky! 😂

We booked Earth & Sky's activity, which can take a starry sky tour in Japanese.

It is a tour where you can get together at the meeting time, wear warm clothes, get on the bus, and watch the starry sky with commentary at Mount John University Observatory.

If you have a SLR camera, in some cases a professional will take a picture of the starry sky instead!

Unfortunately, there are no photos I can show you here, but I was impressed to see the scenery for the first time in my life ...!

It's an incredibly beautiful starry sky where you can see such beautiful stars on the earth, so I strongly recommend to join!

Tekapo is in a very good location to come overnight from North and South.

We stayed overnight and returned to Christchurch, but I think it's a good idea to continue south to Queenstown.

It's about 4 hours one way from Christchurch, so if you can drive yourself, you may want to rent a car.
